ContiTech Retrofitting Hungarian Bus Fleet
Hanover, April 2008 ContiTech Vibration Control, Europe’s leading manufacturer of engine mounts for commercial vehicles, is installing SCHWINGMETALL® cone mounts in Miskolc, Hungary’s fleet of urban transit buses. After the midi fleet was re-equipped with Euro IV-generation diesel engines, passengers complained to transit company operators of increased vibration in the buses. “The previous supplier’s mount design was no longer capable of compensating for the vibration we now had to deal with,” explained Axel Thor, engineer at ContiTech Kautschuk- und Kunststoffvertriebsgesellschaft in Wiener Neudorf, Austria, who services the Hungarian market. “ContiTech technology was able to restore riding comfort in the buses.”

ContiTech's Austrian sales subsidiary and Budapest-based Enterprise Bus, the manufacturer of the Miskolc bus fleet, put their heads together to arrive at a solution. In line with calculations worked out in the development department at ContiTech Vibration Control in Hanover-Stöcken, the Cummins engines installed in around a dozen of the transit company's buses were equipped with a SCHWINGMETALL® 210444 45Sh A cone mount at six points. By summer the whole transit fleet will have been retrofitted with the high-performance cone mount.
